About Snake Games

Snake is one of the great arcade classics. Its roots go back to the arcade machines of the late 1970s, and it became a household name when it came built into millions of mobile phones. The rules fit in one sentence: steer a snake that never stops moving, eat the food to grow longer, and never run into a wall or your own tail. Because the snake gets longer with every bite, a game that starts easy slowly turns into a tense puzzle about space and planning.

Snake Rush is the classic snake game tuned into a two-minute sprint in a golden-hour orchard. Every fifth fruit speeds the snake up and drops a golden apple on the board for six seconds, worth five apples if you can reach it in time. Cherries are worth three apples, a pear shortens your tail and a blueberry slows the game for three seconds, while hedges and boulders sprout on the lawn as you climb the levels. Every point is multiplied by your level, three hearts mean one bonk does not end the run, and surviving until the clock runs out adds a bonus for every segment and every heart left. Swipe on a phone, or use the arrow keys or W A S D on a computer; the cell ahead flashes red just before a crash, so you always get a warning.

Snake games run free in your browser with nothing to install. Ranked runs are replayed on our servers before they count, so the high scores are real. For more classics, see the retro games and arcade games; for fast reflexes, try the reaction games; and for more games you steer with the arrow keys, the keyboard games.

Frequently asked questions

  • How do you play snake?

Steer the snake with swipes or the arrow keys, eat the food to grow and avoid the walls and your own body. The longer the snake gets, the harder it is to find a safe path.

  • Can I play snake on my phone?

Yes. In Snake Rush you swipe up, down, left or right anywhere on the screen to turn, or tap beside the snake's head on the side you want to go. On a computer, use the arrow keys or W A S D.

  • Why won't my snake turn back on itself?

A snake never reverses straight into its own body, so pressing the opposite direction does nothing. To turn around, make two quick turns in a row: Snake Rush lets you line up a second turn behind the first.

  • Do I need to download anything?

No. Snake Rush is a regular web page that runs in any modern browser, with no download, plug-in or account.
