How to play Snake Rush

  1. Swipe in any direction, tap beside the snake's head, or press the arrow keys or W A S D to turn the snake.

  2. Eat the fruit: an apple is 10 points times your level and one segment; cherries are 30 points and two segments.

  3. Every fifth fruit the snake speeds up and a golden apple appears for six seconds. Grab it for 50 points times your level.

  4. From level 3, grab pears to shorten your tail and blueberries to slow time for three seconds.

  5. Steer around the fence, your own body, and the hedges and boulders that grow from level 3. The cell ahead flashes red before a bonk.

  6. A bonk costs a heart and a third of your tail. Keep at least one heart until the end of the two minutes for a survival bonus.

Tips

  1. Turn early at high speed: your turn is taken at the next cell, and at level 10 the snake moves almost ten cells a second.

  2. Watch the amber rings. A sprout becomes a solid hedge a second and a half later, so do not plan a route through it.

  3. Hug the fence and the hedges with a long, tidy body, and leave the middle of the lawn open for the next fruit.

  4. Save the blueberry for when it helps: slow motion is perfect for threading a tight gap or untangling a long snake.

  5. Take the pear when your tail fills the lawn. Four segments shorter can be the difference between a clean route and a dead end.

  6. Only chase a golden apple if you can get there with room to spare. Its ground ring shows the time left and turns red near the end.

  7. In the last seconds, play safe: every heart left is worth 100 points and every segment 10 at the buzzer.

About Snake Rush

Snake Rush is the classic snake game, rebuilt for your browser and set in a golden-hour apple orchard. You steer a chunky green snake around a fenced checkerboard lawn, eat the fruit that appears one piece at a time, and grow longer with every bite. Run into the fence, a hedge or your own body and you bonk. If you grew up with the snake game on an old phone or a school computer, the rules are the ones you remember. The movement is smooth, the snake has a face, and a clock keeps every attempt to two minutes.

The twist is the rush. Every fifth fruit is a level-up: the snake gets faster and a golden apple appears for six seconds. It is worth five times an apple, so every speed-up asks the same question: take the detour, or stay on a safe line? The fourth fruit of every level is a pair of cherries, worth three apples and two segments of growth. From level 3, every level also brings a helper: a pear that takes four segments off your tail when you are getting crowded, or a blueberry that slows the whole game down for three seconds. The garden changes as you climb. Hedges sprout at levels 3 and 5 and boulders drop at level 7, so the second minute is played around obstacles that were not there at the start. A pulsing ring marks each sprout a second and a half before it grows.

Snake Rush is built so a first game feels fair. The snake starts slowly, at about five cells a second, and works up to nearly ten. You have three hearts. A bonk costs one heart and knocks a third of your tail off, and the dizzy snake then picks a way out (or you choose it with a turn). Only the third bonk ends the run. If you are about to run straight into something, the cell ahead flashes red, and the snake waits half a step for your turn before it bonks, so a slightly late press still counts.

Scoring rewards both nerve and survival. Everything is multiplied by your level: an apple is worth 10 points times the level, cherries 30, a pear or blueberry 20, and a golden apple 50. Survive to the buzzer and you get 10 more points for every segment of your snake and 100 for every heart you still have. A first game usually lands somewhere in the low thousands; a steady player who keeps all three hearts at the top speeds scores five thousand and more.

Snake Rush plays well on every device. On a phone or tablet, swipe in any direction to turn. You can keep your finger down and draw an L to turn twice, or just tap beside the snake's head on the side you want to go. On a computer, use the arrow keys or W, A, S and D, or click beside the snake. There is nothing to download or install: it is a regular web page, which is why it is a handy pick for anyone looking for a snake game unblocked by installers and plugins. It is one of our mobile games and plays just as well with a keyboard.

Snake Rush is one of Gamefinity's snake games and arcade games, and sits with the retro games, keyboard games and quick games. Snake Rush FAQ

  • How long does a game of Snake Rush last?

At most two minutes. The run ends earlier only if you lose all three hearts. Surviving to the buzzer adds 10 points per segment of your snake and 100 points per heart left.

  • How is the score calculated?

Everything is multiplied by your level, which rises every five fruit up to level 10: apples are worth 10 points, cherries 30, pears and blueberries 20 and golden apples 50. The survival bonus at the end adds 10 per segment and 100 per heart left.

  • What happens when the snake hits something?

It bonks: you lose a heart, the last third of your tail breaks off and the snake is dizzy for a moment. Then it turns to the open side, or the way you choose with a swipe or a key. The third bonk ends the run.

  • What do the pear and the blueberry do?

From level 3, each level brings one of them for six seconds. The pear takes four segments off your tail, and the blueberry slows the whole game for three seconds. Both are also worth 20 points times your level.

  • Can I play Snake Rush on my phone?

Yes. Swipe to turn (keep your finger down to turn again), or tap beside the snake's head on the side you want to go. It is built for portrait phones and also plays on tablets and computers with the arrow keys, W A S D or the mouse.

  • Is Snake Rush unblocked?

Snake Rush is a regular web page: there is nothing to download, install or unlock, and it runs in any modern browser. Whether a particular school or office network allows the site is up to that network.

  • Why did my snake not turn when I pressed a key?

The snake never reverses straight back into itself, so pressing the opposite direction does nothing. A turn is taken at the next cell, and you can line up one more turn behind it for a quick U-turn.
