About Board Games

Board games bring tactics to the table: a grid, a few pieces and a question of who plans better. Gamefinity's board games take those tabletop ideas and turn them into quick single-player challenges that run in your browser. There is no setup, no pieces to lose and no waiting for your turn, just a fresh board every time you press Play.

Start with Mate in One, rapid chess puzzles against a 90-second clock. Every position has one move that delivers checkmate on the spot: tap or drag the piece that mates, and the next, harder position appears. Every position comes from a real game: the first puzzles are open queen and rook mates, and the later ones hide the mate in smothered mates, Anastasia's mates, discovered checks and other classic patterns. Selecting a piece marks every square it can legally reach, so you never have to remember how a knight moves. Solve puzzles in a row to grow a streak multiplier, but think before you play: a move that is not mate costs five seconds and resets the streak.

You will also find Mate in One among our chess games and brain games. If you already love thinking a few moves ahead, the strategy games and puzzle games pages are full of the same kind of challenge, and Merge Minute turns a 4×4 grid into a race against the clock.

As with everything on Gamefinity, board games are free, work on phones, tablets and computers, and have optional leaderboards where every ranked run is verified by replaying it on our servers. Play at your own pace in free play, or take a ranked attempt when you think you have found the winning plan.

Frequently asked questions

  • Are these board games multiplayer?

Board games on Gamefinity are single-player challenges: you play against the board and compare scores on the leaderboards.

  • Are the board games free?

Yes. Every game is free to play in your browser, with no download or account needed.

  • How long does a board game take?

They are designed for short sessions. A round of Mate in One lasts 90 seconds, a little less if you play wrong moves, since each one takes five seconds off the clock.

  • Is there a chess game?

Yes. Mate in One is a chess puzzle game: every position is set up for you, and you find the move that delivers checkmate. You play against the clock rather than a full game against an opponent.
