How to play Twist Fit

  1. Grab the piece: two fingers anywhere on a phone, or the mouse on the piece on a computer.

  2. Twist to turn it, pinch or spread to resize it, and slide to move it. With a mouse, drag beside the piece to turn and resize it, or use Q/E to turn and W/S to resize.

  3. Watch the dashed ghost inside the slot and the MOVE, TURN and SIZE lights: when all three are lit, the slot glows.

  4. Let go to snap the piece into place. Line it up perfectly and it snaps in by itself.

  5. Fit as many pieces as you can before the 90-second clock runs out.

Tips

  1. Fix the turn and the size first while watching the dashed ghost inside the slot, then slide the piece in: the ghost shows the angle and size wherever the piece is.

  2. On a phone, gesture below the piece rather than on top of it, so your fingers never cover the slot you are aiming for.

  3. For a big turn, twist as far as your wrist allows, lift both fingers and grip again. With a mouse you can go all the way round the piece in one drag.

  4. On a computer, keep your left hand on Q, E, W and S: turn and resize with the keys while the mouse slides the piece in.

  5. Symmetric shapes fit several ways: a square fits every quarter turn and a star every fifth, so turn the short way to the nearest match.

  6. On mirror shapes, find one landmark first, such as the foot of the L or the pennant of the flag, and turn that corner to its place in the slot.

  7. On a sliding slot, line up the turn and size first, then follow the slot and hold the piece over it: a precise hold snaps it in without letting go.

About Twist Fit

Twist Fit is a free shape puzzle game set in a sunlit white courtyard by the sea. A slot is cut into a limestone plinth, and the stone piece that belongs in it lies beside it: moved away, turned the wrong way and either too big or too small. Drag, twist and pinch the piece until it lines up with its slot, let go, and it clicks into place with a flash and a puff of stone dust. Then the next piece flies in. If you have been looking for a real pinch and rotate game or a quick fit the shape game with nothing to install, this is it.

Every gesture does one job. On a phone or tablet, put two fingers down anywhere: twist them and the piece turns by the same angle, spread or pinch them and it grows or shrinks, slide them together and it follows. One finger works too: on the piece it drags it, beside it it turns and resizes it. On a computer, drag a piece with the mouse, drag beside it to turn and resize it as if the mouse were your second finger, or hold Q and E to turn and W and S to resize. A dashed ghost of the piece inside its slot shows the turn and size you have now, and three lights, MOVE, TURN and SIZE, switch on as each one falls within tolerance. When all three are lit, let go to snap; line it up very precisely and it snaps in on its own.

The game is easy to start. The first three pieces each teach one move: drag the star into its slot, turn the triangle, resize the plus. Then the shapes get harder to read, from symmetric forms that fit several ways round, through two-way shapes like a bar and a bow, to one-way shapes like a house, an arrow and a heart. A strong run keeps finding something new: two pieces at once, each with its own slot, then mirror shapes such as an L and a J, an F or a flag that only fit one way up, then a sliding slot that moves left and right while you aim, and finally mirror twins, where you must tell a shape from its own reflection. The tolerances tighten with every round.

Each fit scores its base points, multiplied by a precision bonus of up to three times, plus a speed bonus for fitting it quickly. Letting go the moment the three lights turn on is fastest; taking a heartbeat longer to line it up perfectly earns a PERFECT grade and nearly triple the points. A run lasts 90 seconds, which makes Twist Fit one of our quick games and a sharp little workout among our brain games and puzzle games. Practise as often as you like, then press Ranked attempt to put your best run on the competitive leaderboards, where every top score is verified by replaying it on our servers.

Twist Fit plays on mobile and desktop. On a phone it is one of our multi-touch games, built around two fingers at once, and you will find it with the other mobile games. On a computer it is a proper PC game with the mouse and the keyboard, no touch screen needed. It runs in any modern browser, held in portrait on a phone, with nothing to download. Twist Fit FAQ

  • How long does a game of Twist Fit last?

Exactly 90 seconds of play, followed by a short TIME'S UP screen with the number of pieces you fitted. The run only ends early if you hold nothing for 15 seconds.

  • How is the score calculated?

Every fitted piece earns its base points (60 for the three opening lessons, then 100 rising to 200 for the hardest shapes) multiplied by a precision bonus from ×1 at the edge of the tolerance to ×3 for a perfect fit, plus a speed bonus of up to 150 points when you fit it within ten seconds.

  • Can I play Twist Fit on my phone?

Yes. It is made for touch screens: use two fingers to pinch, twist and drag, or one finger on and around the piece. It plays in any modern mobile browser held in portrait, with nothing to install.

  • Can I play it on a computer with a mouse and keyboard?

Yes. Drag a piece with the mouse to move it, drag beside it to turn and resize it, or use Q and E to turn and W and S to resize. The arrow keys work too.

  • Do my fingers have to be on the piece?

No. Two fingers anywhere on the screen control the piece, so you can gesture next to it and keep the slot in plain view. One finger on the piece drags it; one finger beside it turns and resizes it.

  • Why doesn't my piece snap into the slot?

It snaps when its position, angle and size are all within tolerance, which is when the MOVE, TURN and SIZE lights are all on. Then let go. A release that is close but not quite there shows CLOSE!, and in rounds with two pieces each one only fits its own slot.
