About Roguelike Games

Roguelike games are built on runs. Every attempt starts fresh, the choices on offer change from run to run, and when a run ends you start again, a little wiser. The fun is in the decisions: which upgrade to take, which to skip, and how the pieces you picked work together. Many modern roguelikes are fast action games rather than slow dungeon crawls, with runs of ten minutes or less, which makes them a perfect fit for a quick break on a phone or a computer.

Emberloop is a roguelike bullet heaven, free in your browser. Each run is a night in the meadow: your weapons fire on their own while you loop your ember trail around the swarm, and every level-up offers three cards to build with. You can lock a card for later, banish one you never want to see again or reroll the offer, and every card shows its exact odds, so a run turns on your choices rather than hidden luck. Max a weapon and own its partner passive and the next chest evolves it; pair two flare charms at their highest level and they unite. New keepers unlock as you reach dawn and close loops, and the Codex fills in with every evolution and bug you find.

If you like runs that are different every time, try the bullet heaven games, the survivor games and the rest of our action games.

Frequently asked questions

  • What makes a game a roguelike?

Runs that start fresh every time, choices that change from run to run, and a run that ends for good when you lose. What you carry over is mostly what you have learned.

  • Does Emberloop have permanent upgrades?

No upgrade you unlock makes a run stronger. Reaching dawn and closing loops unlock new keepers, each with its own twist, and harder Lantern steps; your skill is what carries over.

  • Is luck the same for every player?

Yes. In Emberloop every draft offer and chest comes from a public key shared by everyone playing that mode in the same week, and every card shows its exact odds.
